| An explanation of the different membership levels are as follows: |
- A Full Member is a certified music-thanatologist (or was a full/“professional” member in good standing as of January 1st, 2015) and continues to adhere to the association’s published Standards, Competencies, and Code of Ethics.
- A Retired Member meets the Full Member criteria but is now retired.
- An Associate Member is currently pursuing, or must have completed training to become a music-thanatologist.
- A Friend Member must be interested in supporting the goals of MTAI and the future growth and development of the field of Music-Thanatology.

Full member dues are $150. For those in financial hardship, or for those who would like to pay more to help with operational budget, we are offering a sliding scale.
The Music-Thanatology Association International is a 501(c)(6). Contributions are acceptable, but any payment to the MTAI is NOT considered a charitable deductible on tax returns. However, dues, certifications, or conference payments are deductible as business expenses for those members who have businesses.
